    WaFd is a US retail and commercial bank with over 200 branches in eight states.

    When claims first call in, we use Amazon Transcribe, which takes what they are saying and translates it into text. Once that speech has been translated to text, that get sent to Amazon Lex, which determines what intend is the person trying to accomplish. Once Amazon Lex finds a response then it has to use Amazon Polly to translate text into speech, which is what the customer ultimately hears. Checking account balance took 4:30 minutes in the old system and now you can do it in about 25 seconds.

    With 36 million cardholders, Credit Saison Co., Ltd. focuses its operations on payments, and it also engages in finance and real estate-related businesses.

    The combination of Amazon Connect and Amazon Polly had a much lower initial cost than a package-based automated calling system. To reduce operational loads, the system was set up as a serverless/managed service using AWS Lambda and Amazon DynamoDB. We are also trying to prevent operational errors by linking the call history with the debt collection system. We are now able to make about 200,000 automated calls per month, and can contact delinquent customers who could not be approached manually. In terms of operator hours, this is equivalent to 100 people-hours, which represents a dramatic increase in productivity.

    Nearly half of our customer calls were about order status, and we wanted to expedite them using automation. Amazon Polly enabled us to deliver automated real-time information in a natural sounding voice and to shorten the duration of these calls by more than 40 percent. After each call, customers are asked to evaluate the experience. Today, we’re standing on the verge of 4.8 out of a total score of 5, and before we introduced Amazon Polly we were at about 3.5.

    FM Wakayama is a nonprofit community radio station in Japan. Since July 2017, FM Wakayama has been broadcasting news and weather forecasts through Nanako, an artificial-intelligence (AI) announcer that uses Amazon Polly. Trainers who write the on-demand courses in Microsoft PowerPoint create the script spoken by the Amazon Sumerian hosts. After adding this script to the notes section of the slides, Amazon Polly, the AWS text-to-speech engine, translates it to actual speech, making it appear as if the Amazon Sumerian hosts are speaking. Amazon Lex powers the conversational interface, where learners can ask questions by typing or speaking aloud and receive a response. Because we're programmatically creating our content, we can now reach differently abled partners and customers. We’re realizing great benefits in terms of inclusivity and enablement.

    When Dan Brown’s publishers, Doubleday, approached us to power a contest for his new novel Origin, we realized we needed to create something special. We came up with the concept of the world’s first virtual book signing where, having voted on their book cover design, entrants would receive a personalized video. Not only do they see Dan Brown write them a personal message, they are welcomed into his house by name as well. We chose Amazon Polly to power the voice in the personalized video due to the ease of integration, the speed at which the voice file can be created, and the quality of the voices available. We required a British voiceover and selected Brian.

Thanks to Amazon Translate and Amazon Polly we expanded our offering to multiple demographics by translating narration of our VR experiences to other languages in natural sounding human speech, in less than a day. This has allowed SilVR to rapidly grow internationally and provide seniors from different backgrounds and cultures with stimulating and engaging content in their native languages.
